As businesses continue to struggle during the pandemic, a restaurant rescue challenge is taking over Racine, Wisconsin.Earlier this month, Stan Anderson stopped by Bernie’s Pizzeria in Racine. The father and son owners had no clue what was about to happen. They were the latest restaurant in Anderson’s “Venmo Challenge Racine.”He surprised the pizza shop owners with $2,500.Anderson recently started collecting money to give to establishments struggling during the pandemic.”They Venmo me, or Cash App or Chase pay/Zelle, whatever,” he said. “They give us money and they trust us to go to restaurants like here and give the money to the restauranteurs.”Through those mobile payment services, he’s raised $18,000.Anderson said the way he picks the restaurants in Racine County is pretty random.He takes recommendations from friends, family and longtime residents.So far, he’s handed out money to 10 of them.”It helps take care of a few extra bills that are laying around that are like $500, $1,000,” pizza shop owner Bernard A.
